When we moved into our house I noticed a rail line going behind the house on our GPS.  You can tell where it is behind the house where it runs through the pine trees.  I can see pieces of it along 55 and close to downtown Holly Springs.  This website, http://durhamsouthern.com/ , has a great history of the railroad and a lot of information about the old line.  You can also learn some history from the Durham and Southern Yahoo Group.  Actually, yahoo groups are pretty cool, a lot of people that you can learn all kinds of things from.  These are people that have first hand experience and are a great resource.
