On a recent trip to San Jose, CA for business I went wandering around to fine some cool railfan sites.  One of them is Alviso, CA.  This is a small town right on the south end of the bay.  Some history of the area can be found on its wiki.  There is a trail system that runs, for a distance, right by the tracks.  I mostly see the Caltrain running by but it also has the Amtrak go by once in a while.  The park is currently getting a face lift but you can still use the trail.  A nice getaway from the hustle and bustle of San Jose and Silicon Valley.
